News from ELF

Firstly, thank you to everyone who attended the Skittles Evening in September, which was organized as part of the village WW1 commemorations.
ELF are pleased to announce that a donation of £200 was made to Troop Aid, a local charity. They supply troops, who return to the UK injured and without their personal effects or clothing, with grab bags. These bags include T shirts and shorts; washing and shaving kits; towels and face flannels; toothpaste, toothbrush, socks, underwear and much more. Troop Aid have recently won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. They are also in receipt of the Chief of Defense Staff Commendation for outstanding support and commitment to the Armed Forces Community of a rare and exceptionally high standard. The decorations in the hall were first-rate.
Throughout the evening there were various table quizzes, which seemed to go down well, with some excellent prizes available along with a raffle.

A DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – On Friday 20th March 2015 ELF are organizing a QUIZ in Earlswood Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets will be £7.50 per person and this includes a fish and chip supper. A bar will be available and there will be a raffle too. Tickets are available by calling Pam on 01564 702145 or Jenny on 01564 703695. Book early to avoid disappointment.

ANOTHER DATE FOR YOUR DIARY – Monday 4th May (weather permitting) OR Monday 25 May 2015 – Please note this event will not take place on both dates! – PICNIC IN THE PARK. This event will start at 12.30pm and is free to all those attending. You will need to bring your own table, chairs and refreshments. There will be some free activities such as a rounders match, horse shoes and stakes and possibly a quick football match. ELF can also confirm that ‘a’ goal post has been purchased and installed in the park, replacing the old one that fell apart. ELF are also in process of purchasing and installing new swing seats, including a cradle seat for the baby swing.

In the last newsletter Jenny mentioned dog fouling and the problems this causes. To help those visiting the park, who may on occasion forget to bring bags to collect the dog waste, help is at hand. A dog bag dispensing unit will be installed. ELF are asking all those who walk dogs in the park, to donate bags by popping them into the unit, so that others can use the bags and so keep the park clear of dog waste. A big thank you to everyone who supports ELF, because without you, all of this activity would not be possible.
